Dear residents

I have just seen this local news item. It is worth sharing partly for the news itself, and partly as it is a good example of Residents' Associations working well when the chips were down.

------------------------------------------------------------

This is a major victory for us all, with the threat of a huge supermarket by Tolworth roundabout now permanently gone. It's been a ten year campaign to persuade Tesco, and I want to pay particular tribute to the local Liberal Democrat councillors who led this battle so intelligently and with such determination.

After our other recent victory on Surbiton's filter beds it proves that dogged campaigning by local people can stop large firms and developers from dictating what happens in our community. For those of us who plugged away for years when others stood aside, this is a double celebration.
